- Peruvian Navajeros literally are type of gamefowls used by Peruanos in Peru using " Long Knife" or " Navaja - from which the term Navajero came from. These type of fowls were breed out of different blood mostly Oriental like Asil, Shamo, Malay etc. etc. etc. which make them more Oriental-looking than not. They break high, they shuffle well, they cut deep with real speed and power and often times feet-out or feet fully extended during spars. More often than not, they come really Big in size which often put those that are Not in question. But this should not be a determinant for a Peruvian to be considered Pure just because of the size. Bear in mind that Peruvian fowls were already a product of a cross so the issue on Purity is neither the less should be given so much concern. A Pure Peruvian Fowl is a type that Do Not Bear American blood on it, otherwise we termed it "graded/downgraded or simply a cross." The term " Pure " anyway is like a gauge or an adjective to describe how solid the blood composition is still as per the character or traits, appearance or by the name given by the one who created it. Since Peruvian fowls are made up of a cross then one can say that he/she is breeding a Peruvian bloodline whenever ask what type of bloodline he/she breeds. Peruvian Bloodlines come in so many. To discuss a few of these, let it be known that " Bloodlines" are product of crosses or blend and that Peruanos do have different approach in breeding as much as American breeders do, thou in some instance one adapts the system of the other. But, as far as most Peruanos are concern they breed them the way the horses are breed. They are after breeding by performance( like a winner to another winning line) and do not give so much concern about the uniformity in physical appearance specially feather color as to the outcome of the offsprings. American breeders on the other hand, like Filipinos were much particular on these matter. So, do not wonder why having some "chopsuey" colors of chicks when you breed a Peruvian fowl direct from Peru. Thou not all the time, it is indeed possible to always throw you back a different one. Now on the latter, Peruanos also were infusing some western or american blood to refresh or upgrade their made. They won't tell but for us Filipinos once we acquired from them, specially directly from breeders in Peru, we will be blinded for only a few of them would honestly say or divulged the real blood composition of their own creation or blend. Peruanos are proud of their own creation and that they would call a fowl by a special name or label them by their own name and that became now the "so-called bloodline" for us. Let me give a few example: Most common is, if one ask what type of peruvian bloodline you have? One answers, Peruvian Navajero Sifuente or GraƱa or Carlos Flores Montes, Valqui, Bazan, these were some known peruvian bloodlines in the Philippines named after a breeder's name. Thus with the American counter-parts we have Zenteno line, Hoa Kien Phan Line, AKJ Line, Ron Giron Line etc. which we very often hear. Other Peruanos would give a name to the fowl they created and name them with special name like Premium, Marte, Zulu, Cascabel, Platino (by Juan Valqui) or Tuco(by zanty vienrich), Cangrejo(carlos f-stoll) etc. etc. etc. and for my opinion others would just name them out of the blue. But since they are the originators of these fowls, we have no choice but to follow. As for now, you cannot question what a Peruano breeder would just say about the fowl you bought directly from them but to follow what they say. Try to ask one breeder if what is the blood composition of his Particular Line. I bet good if he would answer. If not, then would you insist? Could you? I guess No. For you will just take it as their " Trade Secret " maybe, and not for you to sound dumb to ask so as to show your respect of being a fan, right? But let me share to you one right common thing, Most of Peruano breeders call their Peruvian Navajeros by colors. Like Peruvian Navajero " brownred " or ajiseco (chili color), PN Prieto/Negro(black), PN Giro(grey), PN Bulico(Dom), PN Calpara(gold), PN carmelo(caramel), PN Blanco(white), PN Pinto(spangled/lasak), so on and so forth. We Filipinos specially the backyard breeders found something better from these peruvian fowls because of their characteristic of having better tolerance from disease and easy to breed despite of limited space which a lot now does. This is actually the type of fowl that a typical filipino backyard breeder must have or infuse to their existing. This can be the type of fowl which I said will soon bring Filipino cock fighting into a higher level. Now, one breeder is unique from the other and with the given recipe of bloodlines available in the market today, one can innovate and create or make his/her own made just like Peruanos do. The important thing is, you breed them to retain and not to lose the characters of a real peruvian fowl. This I guess what matters most. The essence of becoming a true breeder is coming up your own and making them known more than just breeding them. It is actually a fulfilling experience that one will gain out of their precious time, money and effort rather than just simply propagating and duplicating what you gotten from your source.
